Philanthropy Sector Map

The not-for-profit sector in Australia is large and diverse. Although a number of lists and directories of not-for-profit organisations exist, none comprehensive, the task of listing all the organisations involved in the not-for-profit sector seems an impossible one.

As the peak body in the philanthropy sector, Philanthropy Australia has constructed this Philanthropy Sector Map from our viewpoint, in order to give both those within and those new to the sector a bird's-eye view of who fits where. We would like to stress that this is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all organisations in the sector, but a brief overview of the key organisations active in or working alongside the philanthropic sector.

There is considerable overlap when it comes to the roles that different organisations fulfil, as well as where they sit in the sector (both the philanthropic sector, and the wider not-for-profit sector). As a result there is an occasional repetition under different subheadings in order to convey the breadth of organisations' activities within the philanthropic sector.
