Melbourne’s second 10x10 event was held Tuesday 20th May and was again a huge success, raising over $10,150. The proceeds were split amongst 3 different charities, Warwick Cancer Foundation, Cambodian Kids Can and Seven Women, who all sent representatives to take the stage and share their emotional stories with the crowd. At the end of the night the crowd voted for their favourite of the 3 projects.
Much like the BBC’s Dragon’s Den, this inspiring 2-hour event was led two adjudicating ‘Dragons’, leading Australian Philanthropists Mark Cubit and Michael Brosowski, who put each charity through their paces and probed them on how they would use the donated funds for their future projects.
Brosowski, Founder & CEO Blue Dragon said of the event, " 10x10 was an inspiring experience. To hear 3 charities explain their work, engage with a crowd of young and enthusiastic philanthropists, and put forward a case for funding made for a night that appealed to both the heart and the mind. This is a movement that is ready to take off!"
Mark Cubit, an Ex-Merrill Lynch Director and Founder of The Wheeler Foundation added: "The event was a unique confluence of entertainment, networking and ‘feel–good factor’...all whilst helping three great charities raise their profile and raise money for their cause. It proved that charity doesn’t always have to be about guilt driven donations in the face of sad stories."
The highlight of the night came at the very end, when in addition to the donated funds received, each charity was asked to nominate 3 non-financial ways the crowd could help with their charity. A sea of hands went up movingly around the room instantly, as members of the crowd volunteered their skills to each charity to help them reach their short-term goals with services ranging from Admin Assistance, Warehouse Management, Website Design, Video Editing, Copywriting and Sales Consulting among others.
The next 10 x 10 event is scheduled for August with an official date to be announced shortly.
