Ten years ago, Warren Buffett donated the bulk of his fortune to the foundation’s efforts to reduce inequity. His dramatic commitment has allowed the Gates Foundation to expand work into agricultural development, financial services for the poor, and other global development programs, as well as continue programs to improve global health and U.S. education. This year, Bill and Melinda Gates’ annual letter is a response to a question from Warren on the status of his gift. It’s focused on progress and continued challenges in our work in global health – because that was the starting point for our philanthropy and it’s the majority of what the foundation does.

In conversation with Nicole Richards at the Philanthropy Meets Parliament Summit, Daniel Lee shared his insights on topics including the role of philanthropy as a driver of systems change which addresses root causes of social challenges, the relationship between philanthropy and government and what the new political environment in the United States means for philanthropy.
