Donation to encourage others (ABC NewsRadio)

October 15th, 2013

Andrew Forest, Mining Billionaire, wants his record breaking donation towards education in WA to encourage others to give more generously. Forest will provide $50m to set up a foundation to fund scholarships and post doctoral fellowships at WA's five universities. Another $15m will go towards a new residential college at the University of WA, and Forest says he hopes the money will lift educational standards in his home state. Louise Walsh, Philanthropy Australia CEO, has described the donation as groundbreaking, saying there has been a steady rise in the number and sizes of donations being made around the country, including a $20m gift for Sydney University.
