Some of the nation’s most powerful philanthropists, including members and representatives of the Hains, Myer, Fairfax and Gonski families, have written to Prime Minister Tony Abbott demanding a better tax regime to support international philanthropy
The letter, signed by the council of Philanthropy Australia and 13 other prominent philanthropists, claims Australia’s regulatory and taxation framework for international giving imposes some of the highest barriers to international philanthropy in the world.
In conversation with Nicole Richards at the Philanthropy Meets Parliament Summit, Daniel Lee shared his insights on topics including the role of philanthropy as a driver of systems change which addresses root causes of social challenges, the relationship between philanthropy and government and what the new political environment in the United States means for philanthropy.
