Jon Cheung Board member

Jon has spent over a decade serving the philanthropic, charity and not-for-profit sector as a lawyer and is a partner at Prolegis Lawyers. Prolegis is a firm that specialises in working with charities, not-for-profits and philanthropists. In his role at Prolegis, Jon works with some of Australia’s largest charities and international NGOs, as well as smaller and new charities, not-for-profits, social enterprises, and philanthropic foundations. He also oversees the strategic direction and business of the firm.

He has also worked in an aid and development organisation in South Africa operating in communities across the region in response to issues arising from the effects of AIDS/HIV. In governance, Jon has served on the boards of an international aid and development organisation, a performing arts organisation and an international charity organisation. He is a member of the Charity Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Jon has a Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney. He has also completed the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the executive program on ‘Leading Professional Service Firms’ at Harvard Business School and the program on ‘NGOs and Social Enterprises: Chinese Social Organisations in Local and Global Governance’ from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
