In addition, one of our Members, Documentary Australia Foundation, are holding the following event:

Documentary Australia Foundation invites you to a private screening at Fox Studios of A WELL FOUNDED FEAR (52 minutes). This powerful film about what happens to asylum seekers who are turned away from our shores, premiered at this year’s Sydney Film Festival to sell-out screenings. This Australian film was produced by Anne Delaney and directed by Anne Delaney and Bentley Dean.

The Australian Government sends back asylum seekers it doesn’t think are refugees. International law says people shouldn’t be sent to unsafe locations, but the Australian Government never finds out what happens to the asylum seekers it doesn’t want. The film follows Phil Glendenning, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre, through Afghanistan, Syria, Turkey, Iran and Canada as he searches for Asylum Seekers the Australian Government rejected.

The Edmund Rice centre is one of the few organisations in the world that tracks down asylum seekers.

The Centre had already published a report summarising their findings which the previous government dismissed as “unsubstantiated”. Anne Delaney wanted to find out if Glendenning’s findings stacked up.

The filmmakers will be joining us and are available for a Q&A after the screening. In addition to government support from the Film Finance Corporation Australia, the Australian Film Commission and SBS Television, it has been philanthropically funded.

The screening will be held in the screening room at 6.30pm, 9th September at Fox Studios Australia, Moore Park.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP to admin@documentaryaustralia.com.au.
