Board Director, Philanthropy (Voluntary Position) – Flexible Location

Friday, 10 Mar 2023

Australia’s only nationally focused community foundation, Australian Communities Foundation, is currently seeking interest from candidates with expertise in philanthropic services (supporting people to give) to join our Board.

Relevant philanthropic services knowledge, experience and understanding is important.

  • Deep understanding of structured giving vehicles and how they operate is essential, e.g. private and public foundations and donor-advised funds.
  • Expertise/experience with the broader philanthropic sector is desirable, e.g. collective giving, corporate and workplace giving, community foundations, next gen giving, etc.

Ideally, the successful candidate will also have prior governance experience, be aligned with the values of the organisation, and have a demonstrated commitment to giving/philanthropy.

Diverse and/or younger candidates that can bring new perspectives and lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Australian Communities Foundation is a non-profit, intermediary foundation working with hundreds of everyday philanthropists to support structured giving, address social issues, and create positive, community-led change.

Australian Communities Foundation currently supports 470+ funds and foundations, responsibly invests $130+ million and distributes over $20 million through more than 1,000 grants annually to organisations and initiatives to ensure our non-profit partners can continue operating, pursue strategic initiatives and fund their most critical projects.

As a community we also collectively identify and support changemakers who are tackling the big issues facing Australia within our four focus areas: strengthening our democracy, supporting First Nations self-determination, safeguarding the environment and tackling inequality. In our 25-year history, Australian Communities Foundation has made in excess of 10,000 grants distributing more than $120 million to Australian and international communities.

Our purpose: Activate a nation of givers to create a fairer and more sustainable Australia.

Our role: As a broker of change, we enable, support and amplify giving.

Our promise: We are an organisation built on strong values, using capital as a means of achieving impact.

Our values: Inclusion, Agency, Courage and Fairness.
