Position Description

Expressions of interest are sought for the non-executive, voluntary position of Chairperson of the Board for the St Andrew’s Hospital Foundation.

About us

St Andrew’s Hospital is a private surgical hospital in Adelaide, with an enviable reputation as one of Australia’s premier sites. Undertaking a broad range of surgical specialities, the Hospital cares for over 40,000 patients annually. Located alongside the Eastern Parklands, the Foundation is co-located with the Hospital on South Terrace. Established in 2000, the Foundation has been providing financial and non-financial support (including volunteer services) to the Hospital for 21 years. The Foundation is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and is a registered Deductable Gift Recipient.

Individuals with a demonstrated passion for the not-for-profit sector and healthcare together with previous Board experience are encouraged to submit an expression of interest via the Hospital’s website (see below link) for the position of Chairperson. About the role

The Foundation Board is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Non-Executive Chair and Director. Expressions are sought from candidates experienced in the not-for-profit sector, ideally having held a previous position in a hospital or healthcare setting. The Chair is required to lead the Foundation Board and Investment Committee Meetings, held at St Andrew’s Hospital.

All board positons are for a 2 year tenure, with the ability to renominate.

Role Competencies and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Chair/Director’s responsibilities – including legal, ethical and financial considerations
  • Strategic expertise – the ability to contribute to the strategic planning of the foundation and alignment with the hospital
  • Finance – strong financial experience, including the ability to understand investment reporting, profit and loss, balance sheets, budgets, management accounts and the audit process
  • Industry experience/knowledge – previous board level experience in the not-for-profit sector, ideally in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Previous Chair experience is highly desirable
  • Previous experience in Foundation/Philanthropy Management would be an advantage

  • Strong emotional intelligence – honed interpersonal skills with the ability to act in a tactful manner with the ability to be concise
  • Commercial experience – highly developed commercial instinct and business acumen
