Since its establishment in 1978, Gandel Foundation has been the main vehicle for the charitable giving by the Gandel family and regarded as one of the most prominent private family philanthropic organisations in Australia. They engage in both core philanthropy and proactive, strategic philanthropy that drives better community outcomes and positive social change.


Reporting to the CEO and working as part of a small, results-driven team, the Grant Manager, Australian Programs will manage the grant-making process and activities in line with the strategic plan. The role will involve research, analysis and development of robust assessments and proposals for funding, aiming to deliver high-impact and high-quality grant distributions that promote positive and lasting community outcomes. You will be discerning and thorough in your assessments, ensuring proposals have potential to deliver positive community outcomes and use best practice and strategic philanthropy approaches.


This role will actively engage existing grantees and monitor grant progress.

You will strategically and proactively identify, assess and develop new grant initiatives. Managing grants may include the application process, liaising with applicants, assessing progress reports, record keeping and compliance. Positive, productive relationships will be developed with a broad range of stakeholders such as community groups, grant partners and government.


About YOU

  • Prior experience and understanding of the not-for-profit sector within the context of charitable grant-making,
  • Well-developed program management, organisational and administration skills,
  • Strong skills in research and analysis combined with ability to write reports and recommendations,
  • Demonstrated ability to developing strategic plans and implementing agreed directions and outcomes,
  • Excellent, developed skills in communication, negotiation, relationship-building and stakeholder management along with the ability to apply them to a range of sectors including community, government, grant-seeking and philanthropic organisations,
  • Prior experience working as part of a small team, delivering under pressure and to tight timelines, while showing diligence, maturity and a team player attitude,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and the Blackbaud Database (or
  • similar) for grant management,
  • Integrity, together with a strong sense of ethics and empathy, and a commitment to community development.
