Directory resource for those living with disability

September 17th, 2021

A new provider directory created to provide a connection, resource and support for people living with a disability has been launched with the assistance of Gandel Philanthropy.

The Summer Foundation announced that its UpSkill Provider Directory would help those living with a disability to search for support co-ordinators and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allied health professionals with the skills to meet their needs. Gandel is a Foundation funding partner and has made a major grant to support the Foundation’s UpSkill program.

Gandel Philanthropy CEO Vedran Drakulic said: “The UpSkill Provider Directory will offer vital online connections and supports so that every young person with disability can choose where they live and who they live with.’’

The directory is the latest addition to the Foundation’s UpSkill program, which provides professional development to support co-ordinators and NDIS allied health workers. Those roles are integral to helping those with complex support needs to achieve good outcomes. And one of those outcomes is being able to live well in the community.

“From alternative housing demonstration projects to building workforce capability through UpSkill, the Summer Foundation has been at the forefront of innovative strategies to prevent younger people with disability from languishing in aged care,’’ Vedran said.

The Provider Directory enables support co-ordinators and NDIS allied health workers to create a profile outlining their skills and experience. Once the free profile is lodged, NDIS participants can search the platform for appropriate professionals to provide guidance and advice to help them access available support.

The Summer Foundation intends to build directory listings over the months ahead. To be eligible to contribute a directory profile, co-ordinators and allied health workers are required to complete UpSkill training that covers NDIS requirements, including how to support people with complex needs, supporting a participant to leave hospital and finding a suitable home.

The provider directory will also offer a networking opportunity through the UpSkill Community of Practice and a place to showcase good practice, troubleshoot issues and share inspiration for innovation.
