Labor Commits to Charity Sector Development Plan

April 22nd, 2022

The Federal Labor Opposition has committed to establishing a Not-for-profit Sector Expert Reference Panel to work with Treasury, business, philanthropy, volunteering and other key stakeholders to produce a Charity Sector Development Plan.

Shadow Assistant Minister for Treasury and Charities, the Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP said the plan would chart a more productive future for Australian charities. It is understood that the Not-for-profit Sector Expert Reference Panel would be assembled through an open selection process – aiming to bring together expertise from a range of different segments to launch the sector on the best possible trajectory.

The panel would be supported by an ongoing ‘Building Community – Building Capacity’ Working Group. This group will help implement the Panel’s recommendations, and help steward the charity and community sector in its role as frontline responders in building a reconnected Australia.
