Q&A with Peter Walton

50 Lives 50 Homes: the modest grant that led to hundreds leaving homelessness

The 50 Lives 50 Homes project was conceived to help alleviate homelessness. Its name suggested its initial ambition, but support grew to include a collective of 30 community service agencies and the Western Australian Government. It wasn’t long before it outstripped its aim of helping 50 people into homes. It reached 427 last year and is still growing.

Farewell to Sam Rosevear

In news that is both sad and exciting, Philanthropy Australia’s Executive Director of Policy, Government Relations and Research, Sam Rosevear has accepted a senior role as Head of the Research Division in the Higher Education Group, Department of Education, Canberra. Sam will be leaving PA in mid-July and will commence this fantastic opportunity in late July.

New report - Every Child, Every Opportunity: Children’s Wellbeing, a New Perspective

Yesterday, Australian Schools Plus released a new benchmark report that reveals the many challenges facing young people today. One of the key findings being that demand for support for wellbeing-focused initiatives across schools has grown to 48%, up from 31% in 2018. The report also highlights effective solutions that are making a tangible difference. The Toyota Community Trust Grants program aims to encourage and enable more young Australians to pursue further study and future careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Australia Post Community Grants now open

The Australia Post Community Grants program supports local community organisations across Australia to help people connect and stay mentally well. Eligible not-for-profit community groups can apply to receive a grant of up to $10,000 for local, community-led projects that connect individuals and communities to improve mental health and mental wellbeing.

QBE Foundation local grants for community initiatives open

QBE Foundation local grants provide meaningful support for community initiatives addressing specific areas of need. From 3 June-3 July 2024, the QBE Foundation is inviting Australian community organisations working to address climate resilience and inclusion to apply for one of a number of $40,000 grants to be awarded in 2024.

New grant round supporting LGBTQIA+ people living in rural and regional areas in Australia

The Pride Foundation Australia is proud to announce its second grant round for 2024, with a total funding pool of $10,000 and a focus on supporting sexuality, sex and gender diverse (LGBTQIA+) people living in regional and rural areas of Australia. Grant applications should be to the value of up to $10,000 for up to two years (if applicable). Download the guidelines here.

Early Career Medical Research Grant Round

The aim of this program is to strengthen research capability in Victoria to conduct world-class research in health and well-being by helping establish the careers of talented early-career researchers. Applicant researchers need to have passed their PhD no earlier than 31 July 2021 if working full-time.

Grants available for cyclone-affected regional Queensland communities

Grants up to $20,000 are available for remote, rural and regional Queensland communities impacted by Cyclones Jasper and Kirrily. Proudly supported by Suncorp Group, a total of $300,000 is available for a wide range of projects and activities to support recovery, prevention and preparedness.

From increasing access to healthy, local food and creating opportunities for active play, recreation, sport, and art, to making places and spaces more culturally safe, VicHealth will fund innovative ideas that push the envelope to create better, fairer health outcomes for Victoria's young people and their families. Social enterprise capability building grants – open now

Social Enterprise Development Initiative (SEDI) Grants help social enterprises, including trading Indigenous owned or controlled organisations with a defined social benefit, grow their business, scale their impact and further their missions of creating positive social change. The grants, valued at up to $120,000 each, are targeted towards supporting social enterprises to be more effective and efficient in demonstrating and increasing social impact for the people and communities they exist to support.

 

The SEDI Grants program will run through to June 2026.
