Freemasons Foundation Victoria are inviting expressions of interest from people with experience in the philanthropy sector, who are not Freemasons, to join their Board. Freemasons Foundation Victoria (FFV) is a public company limited by guarantee and is the trustee for both The Freemasons Public Charitable Foundation (FPCF) and Freemasons Benevolent Fund (FBF).
It is a separate entity from Freemasons Victoria, which is an associated organisation.
FFV’s principal purpose is to undertake a variety of philanthropic activities in Victoria with the aim to contribute to stronger and healthy Victorian communities through thoughtful and purposeful charitable donations. FFV also supports individuals through access to education.
The main areas of our granting activities are:
- Health projects and medical research
- Community development
- Education
FFV strives to be a leader in philanthropy, seeking projects that can have an enduring difference and that align with Masonic values. A particular interest of the Foundation is to partner and support the charitable activities instigated by any of the over 200 Freemasons Lodges throughout Victoria. Since 2014 we have distributed over $22.5 million dollars to organisations across Victoria.
Board meetings are held 6 times a year. In addition, Board members may be requested to be available to attend functions, strategic planning meetings, site visits and represent FFV at charitable events.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support effective and impactful giving across Victoria.
- Review and approve the strategies, plans and policies of the FFV.
- Ensure the adequacy and efficiency of internal controls and reporting systems.
- Act at all times in accordance with the Constitution of FFV and Trust Deeds of FPCF and FBF.
- Comply with the minimum governance standards set by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
- To act with reasonable care and diligence.
- To act in good faith in the best interest of the organisation and for proper purpose.
- To disclose conflicts of interest.
- To ensure that financial affairs are managed responsibly.
- Not to improperly use information gained through this position.

Skills and Attributes
- A demonstrated commitment to high professional standards and ethical behaviour.
- Understanding and experience of and interest in the role of philanthropy and the community sector.
- Understanding of the Victorian community sector (particularly, but not limited to Health, Education or Community Development)
- Strong communication skills.
- An alignment with the values of Freemasonry – Community, Relief and Truth
- Prior Board or professional executive experience, and experience with philanthropic or community sector governance will be well regarded.
- Connections and networks with community partners and other relevant stakeholders will be highly regarded.
- Must be resident in the state of Victoria.
- A clear criminal record, and Working With Children approval.
