Over the past year, I’ve had many conversations that have stayed with me – at roundtables, focus groups, events, over cups of coffee and late-night virtual calls. I’ve heard the hopes, frustrations and aspirations of a sector that cares deeply about the future of giving in Australia.

Strategy 2033

You – our members – told us that the sector is ready for a peak body that that convenes with purpose, strengthens practice, galvanises capital and advocates for the conditions in which giving can thrive.

I’m delighted that in Philanthropy Australia’s 50th year, we lay the foundations for a new era. One guided by greater collaboration, inclusivity, accountability and a collective commitment to a more generous, just and sustainable Australia.

In Strategy 2033, Philanthropy Australia is stepping fully in to our role as ecosystem builders. We will bring people, ideas and resources together so that generosity can flow with purpose and impact.

Our efforts will focus on initiatives and areas where we can add the most value, reflecting the growth of giving in Australia and the many different actors who have a role driving change.  This strategy commits Philanthropy Australia to four key actions that will bolster the giving ecosystem in Australia.

  1. Convene, connect and engage members
  1. Amplify insights and knowledge exchange to enhance practice
  1. Influence the use of diverse resources to create impact
  1. Advocate for policy outcomes that strengthen the ecosystem

I have recorded a short video to share why this moment matters, what we are working towards, and why being part of Philanthropy Australia has never been more important.

To mark our new strategy, I’m delighted to be visiting members in every state in late April and early March for Philanthropy Australia’s inaugural State of Philanthropy Insights Series, our new national program exploring major shifts shaping giving today. Joining me will be Philanthropy Australia’s new Chair Darrell Wade, and a special international guest. Look out for more information soon.

I’m proud of Philanthropy Australia’s new strategy and excited for what we can build together, as we set our sights on a more generous, just and sustainable future.

I invite you to join us on the journey.
