Guest Editor, Adrian Appo OAM

Welcome to Philanthropy Weekly’s NAIDOC Week special edition. We are handing over the editorial reins to a guest editor – the highly accomplished First Nations philanthropic leader, Adrian Appo OAM.

As we celebrate the rich heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, culture and inspiring achievements during NAIDOC Week 2023, we profile Adrian who gives us his thoughts on a range of topics. He has also chosen and overseen the two lead stories featured on First Australians Capital and the important work being done by the land, sea and waters Indigenous management not-for-profits, NAILSMA and Firesticks.

‘I’d love to say we’ve solved it all, but there’s a way to go’

Adrian is a Gooreng Gooreng man from the Bundaberg area in Queensland. Here, he talks about eldership; breaking down barriers facing First Nations’ enterprise; why 95% of indigenous businesses have a social agenda; the Voice to Parliament; capacity building and how the foundation he works for is planning to make a difference in the Indigenous jobs space in a six-year spend-down.
