Darrell Wade appointed as future Chair at Philanthropy Australia

Philanthropy Australia is delighted to announce that travel entrepreneur and philanthropist Darrell Wade has been appointed Chair designate of its board, marking the close of a significant period of co-leadership under Amanda Miller OAM and Lisa George. Their tenure, which comes to an end in February 2026, has been recognised for strengthening the organisation’s voice and overseeing the advancement of key reforms.

Philanthropy Australia's 50th anniversary celebrations get under way

The first of five EOY events celebrating Philanthropy Australia’s 50th anniversary got under way in Adelaide this week in memorable style. More than 100 members, partners and friends gathered in the stunning environment of Adelaide Zoo – along with Yi Lan and Xing Qiu the giant pandas – to share stories and memories of five decades of giving, knowledge sharing and collective achievement.

More than 6,500 participants from over 170 countries will head to Naarm (Melbourne) for the Women Deliver 2026 Conference in April, a renowned global gathering dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s rights. For the first time, the Oceanic Pacific region will host this influential convening, positioning Australia at the centre of a worldwide call to action in response to regressive developments. 

Unlock DGR: Campaign launched to unlock Australia's giving potential

Justice Connect, the charity that delivers high-impact interventions to progress social justice has launched Unlock DGR, a campaign calling for urgent reform of Australia’s Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) system – the system that determines which charities can receive tax-deductible donations and philanthropic funding.

How unlocking DGR would benefit Neighbourhood Houses: case study

Every week more than 400,000 people around Australia walk through the doors of a Neighbourhood House or Centre. There are more than 1,000 across the country serving crucial roles in local communities acting as the first point of contact for people facing hardship, especially in rural and regional areas.
