Who We Are
Activate Mental Health (AMH) is a community‑driven mental health charity dedicated to reducing loneliness and improving wellbeing through connection, fun, and inclusion. With a strong volunteer base and an active events calendar, AMH supports thousands of members across the Perth community. As a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, AMH is entering a new phase of growth and sustainability.
Why We Need You
As Activate Mental Health continues to grow, we’re seeking a Non-Executive Director with fundraising expertise to help translate our momentum into long-term sustainability. This role focuses on ensuring our programs can continue creating inclusive, connected communities, now and into the future.
The current fundraising position of AMH
Activate Mental Health is currently financially sustainable at its current scale. Our income is primarily generated through sponsorship from a mental health peak body and other aligned small businesses, supported by contributions from a Rotary Club, local government grants, and occasional online donations. We do not conduct event fundraising or charge membership fees, and we maintain a reasonable cash reserve. Therefore, this role is not focused on survival but on strategically unlocking the growth needed to reach the next level of impact and operations.
The Role
The Director of Fundraising is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing AMH’s fundraising strategy. The role focuses on building sustainable income streams that align with AMH’s values, support long‑term impact, and strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and the broader community.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strategic thinking with relationship‑building capability and a strong understanding of ethical, values‑aligned fundraising in the mental health and community sector.
Key Responsibilities;Strategic Fundraising Leadership
- Develop a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with AMH mission and growth.
- Prioritise diversified income streams (e.g., grants, corporate, philanthropy, events).
Donor & Partner Relationships
- Build and steward relationships with donors, corporate partners, and sponsors.
- Externally represent AMH in fundraising and partnership development.
Grants & Submissions
- Oversee identification of suitable grant opportunities.
- Support/coordinate grant writing and reporting.
- Ensure grant condition compliance.
Governance, Compliance & Ethics
- Ensure fundraising compliance with ACNC and relevant legislation.
- Promote ethical fundraising best-practice.
- Report regularly to the Board on fundraising performance and risks.
Collaboration & Culture
- Work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and other Directors.
- Contribute positively to AMH’s culture (connection, fun, inclusion).
- Support organisation-wide fundraising literacy development.

Time commitment
Directors are required to attend bi-monthly meetings to manage the charity’s compliance obligations. Additionally, an estimated 3-5 hours per month will be needed to support fundraising initiatives and maintain communication via email and the community WhatsApp group.
