How gender-wise is your giving?

Fri, 2 Jun 2023

Australia’s gender parity ranking has fallen from 15th in the world to 43rd. Taking part in Australians Investing in Women’s survey will, for the first time, allow organisations to compare their giving in gender equality against an emerging sector-wide benchmark.

The national State of Gender-wise Giving survey 2023 has been launched by
Australians Investing in Women (AIIS) and the organisation invites the Australian philanthropic community to take part.

Australia’s gender parity ranking has fallen from 15th in the world to 43rd, according to the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report, trailing behind countries including Iceland (1st), New Zealand (4th), South Africa (20th), the United Kingdom (22nd), United States (27th), Mozambique (34th) and Peru (37th). Without action and investment, it will take 26 years to close the gender pay gap in Australia.

The State of Gender-wise Giving survey aims to capture the annual gender-wise investment made in women and girls by the ‘Top 50’ corporate and private philanthropic organisations, as listed by the AFR (Australian Financial Review). Additional organisations are welcome to opt-in to the survey to assess, support and celebrate their commitment to the economic benefits of gender-wise investing, and the AIIW urges them to contribute to the picture.

This is the only survey of its kind in Australia and forms a benchmark to better assess philanthropic communities’ understanding of gender-wise investment and its commitment to ensuring that funding commitments benefit women as fairly and equally as men. The AIIS says that this research is ambitious in its aim to provide an important snapshot for the entire philanthropic community, as well as for government and policy-makers, to support more effective and impactful giving ecosystem.

How long will the survey take and what do participants need?

This survey should take around 15 minutes to complete, and participants will need their annual grants summary and community investment or ESG data on hand. A list of frequently asked questions can be accessed here. The survey closes on Friday, July 7 2023

  How is the data used?
AIIW guarantees the confidentiality of the information supplied and will aggregate data for reporting purposes. The aggregated data will help organisations understand and potentially improve the equity and impact of its giving program. The results of this survey will, for the first time, allow organisations to compare their investments in gender equality against an emerging sector-wide benchmark.
