World Charity Insight Survey opens for Australian charities
Australian charitable organisations are being encouraged to contribute to one of the world’s largest studies on non-profit activity, with the World Charity Insight Survey now officially open for responses.
The survey forms part of the annual World Giving Report, coordinated by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) in partnership with more than 35 countries. The study captures how charities operate, the pressures they face, and the role they play in strengthening civic life.
The 2025 World Giving Report revealed several significant global trends. Nearly two-thirds of people worldwide donated to good causes in 2024, with generosity highest in the lower-income countries rather than the wealthier ones.
The report also found that 40% of donations were given directly to people in need, more than formal charitable donations, with people aged 35 – 44 giving the highest portion of their income.
With an average of 0.73% of income donated, Australia ranked 68th, sitting behind New Zealand, Canada and the United States. Despite this, Australia’s giving ecosystem remains strong, with more than 8400 structured philanthropic entities and more than a quarter of taxpayers making deducible gifts.

The 2026 survey will once again provide valuable insight into the global state of giving, giving organisations the opportunity to describe their challenges, the emerging trends and on-the-ground realities that are shaping their work.
Responses will feed into one of the most comprehensive global snapshots of charitable activity from organisations and donors worldwide. Philanthropy Australia is encouraging charities of all sizes and purposes to take part and circulate the survey broadly across their networks and sector groups.
Complete the survey. It is anonymous, takes around 10 – 12 minutes to complete and will remain open until Friday 5 June 2026.
