Context

Bessi Graham and Paul Steele, the co-founders of Benefit Capital and The Difference Incubator (TDi), are pleased to announce Benefit Capital’s latest contribution to building the impact investment marketplace in Australia with the launch of the Impact Investment Centre to be based at donkey wheel house in Melbourne – the heart of a thriving impact investment community in Australia.

Over the last few years through their work at donkey wheel Foundation and the establishment of The Difference Incubator (TDi) and Benefit Capital, Bessi and Paul have worked to create the missing pieces of the puzzle that will enable impact investment to flourish and grow in Australia.

With donkey wheel as a leading philanthropic trust engaged both from a granting as well as an investment point of view in building the impact investment ecosystem the foundations were built for an action based, practitioner led approach to marketplace development.

The Difference Incubator directly addresses the pipeline development issue that prevents impact investment from taking off in Australia as a result of a lack of investable opportunities. TDi’s work focused on growing Investable Social Enterprises (ISEs) has already contributed significantly to the growth in deals being put to investors that demonstrate an ability to deliver blended value returns, both social and financial.

With the introduction of Benefit Capital the crucial piece of both structuring and facilitating deals in the impact investment space has been addressed.

Benefit Capital is now launching the Impact Investment Centre to provide a central place for impact investors to engage with best practice, international and domestic developments as well as the opportunity to see both current impact investment deals and future pipeline. Through investor dinners, practitioner led insight and regular conversations and materials produced through the Impact Investment Centre members will be at the forefront of this growing industry supported by the expertise of the Centre and its network of partners.

The launch of the Impact Investment Centre sees the strengthening of the relationships that Benefit Capital, TDi and donkey wheel have with our partner NAB who are a proud sponsor of the Impact Investment Centre.
