Philanthropy Australia was very saddened to hear of Peter’s passing – he was a true visionary and leader, particularly of community philanthropy
Known mostly for is work in the US, Peter was also active here in Australia: serving as a Board Member of the former Melbourne Community Foundation (now Australian Communities Foundation) and as a valued Advisor to many other trusts and philanthropists. He regularly contributed to Australian public and university events and discussions – always generous with his deep wisdom, knowledge and experience. We truly celebrate his life, achievements and generosity.
In an extended article on Peter's leadership in Silicon Valley, Fortune Magazine wrote "It is Peter Hero, more than anyone else, who has shown Silicon Valley how to give...by channelling the area's distinctive culture into an unusual brand of charity: demanding, ambitious, self-conscious, creative, even risky - everything you would expect from Silicon Valley."
