Climate and environmental philanthropy surges, report finds

Australian philanthropy directed to climate and environment has increased at 10 times the rate of overall philanthropy, according to a new report from the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network (AEGN). Giving to charities working on climate and environment programs grew 82% in the three years to 2021. We take a look at the key findings from the Environment and Climate Change Giving Trends 2024.

The case for doubling giving: 'Now is the time to lay the groundwork’

We can increase giving to not-for-profits by double or more in the coming years by fostering trust, implementing strategic policies and engaging generations young and old, says Doug Taylor, CEO of children’s education charity The Smith Family. But it is a two-way street and NFPs will need to work hard to ensure impact also grows to meet donor expectations.

VFFF Backing the Future QLD grant round

VFFF is excited to open applications for their QLD Backing the Future grant round, awarding one-off, $50,000 grants to 10 individuals or groups of individuals who are working to support young people in rural and regional QLD. Over the course of 12 months, grant recipients will research, develop and/or accelerate an early-stage idea aligned to one of VFFF's four focus areas: Caring for the Environment, Contributing to Society, Decent Work or Exploring Christian Faith and Values.

Manningham Community Fund applications open

The Manningham Community Fund supports and distributes funds to community organisations in Manningham. It operates under the umbrella of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. The Manningham Community Fund will accept applications for grants up to the maximum value of $10,000. Activities must be based in the City of Manningham.

Equity Trustees – Small Grants Round

Equity Trustees are looking to support small to medium- sized grass roots initiatives and organisations operating in Victoria that empower local communities to thrive. Equity Trustee's approach is to reduce the administration burden for their partners, by building efficiencies into the way they facilitate and assess grant rounds. Equity Trustees does this by seeking one application that is considered across multiple, aligned Trusts managed by Equity Trustees.

Fay Fuller Foundation’s Discovery Grants round Opens 4 March 

Discovery Grants are a two-year grant to support testing and developing preventative approaches that support mental health and the conditions for wellbeing with community in South Australia to learn what works, what doesn’t and how it could be scalable, self-making, or sustainable. Each Discovery Grant is to the value of $120,000 p.a. with an additional $5,000 to support the development of tools or evaluation frameworks to inform ongoing learning for the purpose of reflection and adaptation ($245,000 total per grant). FRRR has multiple grants open including 

Telstra’s Connected Communities Grant Program which aims to boost support for communities across remote, rural and regional Australia to build resilience, improve environmental sustainability and enhance liveability through the power of connection. Other grant programs open for application include the Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program, Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative and the Gardiner Foundation Community Grants Program
