This guide to practice in response to the polycrisis has been informed by our 2025 strategic planning process and shaped by insights and ideas from participants in the Summit funders’ workshop and from individual members.
Historic Treaty For Victoria promises ‘tomorrow can be better than yesterday’
In a landmark session in the Victorian State Parliament last night, the only treaty with First Peoples in Australia was passed into law by the Upper House after a decade-long movement and years of negotiations between the Assembly and government. The Treaty will centre First Peoples in the decision-making process of any legislation involving Aboriginal people.

In 2025 and 2026, Philanthropy Australia is celebrating a remarkable milestone – 50 years since the founding of The Association of Australian Philanthropic Trusts, our predecessor organisation established by visionary leaders Lady Meriel Wright of The Myer Foundation and Patricia Feilman of The Ian Potter Foundation with others.
How Australian funders are adopting organisational effectiveness
Julia Keady, Founder and CEO of Benefolk, has been championing an integrated way for funders and grantee partners to achieve a capability and wellbeing uplift using the Organisational Effectiveness framework, which she calls ‘reverse grantmaking’. It is one of the topics covered at the Beyond the Grant webinar series, hosted by Philanthropy Australia and Benefolk. Julia explains how ‘OE’ developed and its possibilities.
